POSEIDON

ICODOS' demonstration-scale plant — a roughly 15× scale-up of the Mannheim pilot that turns biogenic CO₂ into certified green e-methanol for shipping, within a Horizon Europe project preparing maritime fuel value chains.

POSEIDON is ICODOS' demonstration-scale e-methanol plant and the centerpiece of a Horizon Europe project of the same name. It is being built at the Mannheim wastewater treatment plant, capturing biogenic CO₂ from the site's biogas and converting it — with renewable electricity and green hydrogen — into e-methanol. Scaling the patented hybrid process roughly 15× beyond the Mannheim pilot, it produces e-methanol for real-world tests in marine engines and prepares local value chains as a shipping fuel for the ports of Valencia and Thessaloniki — bridging the gap between pilot and full commercial deployment with Plant S.

What ICODOS Brings

The demonstration plant, end to end

ICODOS is the technology provider and delivers the POSEIDON demonstration plant end to end — supplying the integrated CO₂-capture-plus-e-methanol-synthesis technology and handling design, engineering, procurement, construction and operation, including dynamic, automated operation with remote monitoring. The plant captures biogenic CO₂ and produces roughly 150 t/yr of e-methanol for engine and pilot-boat fuel tests.

  • Integrated CO₂ capture and e-methanol synthesis in one modular plant

  • Full-scope delivery: design, engineering, procurement, construction and operation

  • Dynamic, automated operation with remote monitoring

  • Modular, containerized plant design (multiple process modules)

Why It Matters

Why POSEIDON

  1. 01

Roughly 15× scale-up of the validated Mannheim 001 process, bridging pilot and commercial scale

  2. 02

Demonstrates e-methanol as a drop-in fuel for shipping, tested in real marine engines

  3. 03

Prepares local e-methanol value chains for the ports of Valencia and Thessaloniki

The Consortium
